What the course is

A two-day course on the part of leadership that a strong technical record does not develop on its own. Emotional intelligence is treated here as a set of practicable skills rather than a disposition: noticing your own reactions accurately, managing them under pressure, reading a team and an agency, and handling the relationships and conversations that leadership actually consists of. CLM also uses it as an organizational development instrument on a contract basis.

What you will be able to do afterwards

Learning outcomes, in the order the course builds them.

  1. Build the self-awareness that every other emotional-intelligence skill depends on
  2. Manage your own reactions under sustained pressure
  3. Read a room, a team and an organization accurately rather than optimistically
  4. Handle difficult conversations without either avoiding or escalating them
  5. Apply emotional intelligence to conflict, to change, and to a performance problem

What it covers

  • Self-awareness, and the honest read of your own reactions that everything else depends on
  • Self-management under the pressure a federal leadership role actually applies
  • Social awareness: reading a room, a team and an agency accurately
  • Relationship management, influence and the handling of difficult conversations
  • Applying emotional intelligence to conflict, change and performance problems

Who should attend

Leaders and managers at any level, and the individual contributors about to become one. CLM also runs it as an organizational development engagement for an intact work unit.

The stated audience is leaders and managers at any level. As with the programs, the grade is guidance rather than a gate.

How to buy it

On the GSA Schedule

Course LEAD8007 is priced on GSA Multiple Award Schedule contract 47QRAA24D004K at $545.02 per participant, so a contracting office can order it under FAR Subpart 8.4 without an open-market procurement.

Private classes are priced as a flat total for a class-size band rather than per seat, so a full cohort costs materially less than the per-participant figure suggests.

Next open-enrollment dates

3 upcoming sessions, $1,049 per seat, fundable with an SF-182.

Need different dates, or the whole team at once? It also runs as a private class on dates you choose, at your location or live online. Call (202) 314-3580.
